Happy Halloween
I hope everyone has a good Halloween. I have a buddy coming by so we'll more than likely be playing some games and watching movies.
I don't know what I was going for with this but the spirit of Bawadimann and Gil Elvgren came through, which took about 30-40min. max.
But nowhere near as close.
Have a jolly Ghoul time!

Paint before sleep
This took a little less than an hour to do. I'm not so great with background speed painting but, this was something that I tried to flesh out from my head, which isn't easy.
To me, there are some things in life that you just can't reach or attain, and at times this picture pretty much sums it up for me.
I can't wait for this week to end.

Lobo
I loved when Simon Bisley worked on this guy during the late 80's-early 90's--his art brought so much to the character that I easily became a fan. This is pretty similar to my Cable pose--dead bodies and all, but I wanted to see if I can do a better one than my previous one, can't say I succeeded, but who am I to say? Wish I added a giant shiv to give it more of a homage to the x-mas special aside from Santa.
HB pencil with an H mechanical for details.

Cable
Ahh...the nineties. I really don't know what made me want to draw this guy, but it first started off as a random doodle sketch which became a weekend project. I mean, who doesn't like to draw big guns and guys that kick ass? I was going to go the route of Liefeld with more pouches, but I thought it might end up being too much on the sattirical side.
This was drawn on a manga page, which is smaller than the standard comic size page, and I really like the smoothness of the board on it. I also used a combination of pencil and mechanical and lead, from 2H to HB, with Cable being good ol' pencils and the bodies mechanical.
Maybe I'll ink, but I already have an idea of who I want to do next.
The main man sounds like fun, huh?

Character Sketch
Having alot of fun playing Heavenly Sword for the PS3, and one of things that I always enjoy from these games are the unlockable contents particularly, the art galleries.
That Alessandro Taini (Talexi) cat sure can draw some great characters.
This was my inspiration for this sketch. No-ho-where near his level but maybe I'll try to paint her anyhoo--might be fun.

Mary Fairy...?
....I got nothing.
I think this was one of the first sketches that I did in my new sketchbook. Came out okay, I guess.
I was pretty amped after going to SDCC this year and seeing all that great art. I'm a huge fan of Bawidamann and good girl art, so this was the result of that. I know it doesn't really have that feel to(does it?) it but I love the spirit, personality and flirty-ness of those portraits.

Zombie Chef sketch
So I bought a new sketchbook recently. Now lately, most of my sketching or drawing has been mainly on either sticky notes or blank paper but I thought I'd go back and see if I can actually finish a sketchbook from beginning to end.
So far I've been pretty productive in it and this little guy is one of the drawings in there.
Hope you guys enjoy it :)

Sgt. Ouch
It's been awhile since I've posted anything up in a while. Heh. It's probably because I haven't really done anything worthy posting up. This was the latest sketch that I did in PS. As alot of you might know, I don't really like to do a lot of sketches digitally. But at times when I do, I try to make the best of it.
Don't really know where the idea of this came from but I think it was from those Sideshow Collectibles zombie figures that they are doing. Really cool sculpts and designs. Wish I could afford them though.....
I've done enough babbling.

Wonder Woman inks
Well, the inks are finally finished....I used mainly a Japanese calligraphy brush pen that a friend gave to me a year ago and I absolutely love it. It's clean precise and smooth. I also used a Loew-Cornell #6 brush as well for some of the hair details and fill ins. I tried to use this Windsor and Newton white acrylic ink but it didn't work as well as I thought it would.
Maybe I'll invest in real acrylics next time.
I also had to do a slight image adjustment in PS cause of her proportions and also cleaned up some areas of her hair that didn't work.
Nothing to hide.
Still have a long ways to go to be a Derek Fridolfs(pro) :)

DC Trinity sketch
So when it comes to drawing superheroes, there are two characters that have always been the biggest challenge for me: one is Superman, and the other is the Punisher. Ironically, these are two of my favorite characters too :P
Maybe it's because they aren't wearing a mask or anything fancy on their faces. I dunno.
Personally I think it's the character themselves. Cause the way I see it, their faces embody the character--it really can't be this generic looking face with a strong chin and chiseled cheekbones wearing the costume.
Well, that's how it works for me. I'm never happy with how those characters ever come out, but I was really content with this one. I think I was able to capture a good look for Supes. Reading what Alex Ross said about Superman and how he should always look timeless and not fit into an era really broke that "artist block" I had with this character. After that it was much easier to do, I even gave him some really black wavy hair that I think helped give him the timeless look.
I apologize for all this ranting for this one sketch, but hotdammit, I'm stoked that I drew a Superman I like!
And you know the other cats here too. Batman is Batman, and Wonder woman is whole nother' story :)
And what's with my "S"?!!

Princess Power!!!
This was such a cool show when I was growing up, and I still get nostalgic when I see it(as well as a huge crush for me as a young boy) . This was suppose to be a spur of the moment thing in the beginning that ended up being the complete opposite. I was so frustrated with the original, that I ended up redrawing the damn thing out of complete stubbornness.
I still don't like it.
This goes to show that I need to get back to the fundamentals and practice my anatomy, particularly faces.
*sigh* the life of an artist is a journey with no destination.

Ideas that once were but never...
Oh man, talk about the golden oldies!
When we were young and knew nothing about the comic industry, a few good friends(even till this day) and I had all these great ideas for these characters, in hopes of getting them published that never came to be. Not the usual spandex stuff too, you know?
Although, a few of them, like my Amy America were created more recently, as opposed to some others, I still think they have some great potential. That and they were alot of fun to draw :)
On and off, this took about a week to finally get to this point.(GTA is the culprit!) I think there was more, pencil-wise that I could have tightened up, but I think I got the important parts of what I wanted out of it.
But enough talk, have at you!
all characters are copyrighted n stuff too, so don't get any ideas! ;P

Marvel Sketches
The Baroness
My buddy and his wife asked me if I could draw her as the Baroness from G.I.joe.
I finally finished the darn thing and added the pistol, which I was trying to avoid.
You can see the almost finished version on my deviantart gallery to see what it looked like before this one.
Hope it looks like her. That's always the toughest part.

Pilot
I've been talking to a friend of mine for a quite a bit, and we got into a conversation that inspired me to draw these. I added a little twist on the outfit to take it out of context, but I think I could have gone a wee bit farther so it can have a more retro-futuristic look to it.
Good times, good times.

LaBandita
This was an oldie but goody from a good friend of mine. It was a collab with him doing the story and me drawing it. Needless to say, I fell behind on it and never really saw past the first few pages, but i really dug the look and idea of the character. Trying my shot at modeling it, but you know how I can be when it comes to finishing things ;P
