Don't even know if that made sense, but at 3 am in the morning, what really does.

Regardless, I had alot of fun working on this these past few days. So much that I want to do another one very soon. Originally, I had a large adhesive bandage on the heart but I felt that it was a bit distracting, and had to scrap it. Perhaps the next one that I do will be better suited for it, since the pose won't get in the way of the bg as much as this.

This was also the first time I inked the art completely in Photoshop. Was nice, but the feeling of a real brush really can't be compared. They both have their pros and cons, (but I won't bore anybody reading with that) and I'd like to explore the digital route a bit more, considering that I've heard Sketchbook pro and Art Rage have a better variety of in brush tools. So, we'll see.

Anywho...I hope whoever is reading or visiting this...enjoy :D

Well, here's another word play pinup type girl that I've been meaning to finish for some time before I travel overseas.

But being the artist that(I think)I am, I can never decide what I like more when getting close to the finish line that is my artwork. I couldn't decide whether or not for her to sport glasses, so I have two different versions of her. Heck, I actually have multiple versions of this: nude(sans legwarmers), right arm hiding behind her, white background..etc.

Pfft...artists.

Anyhoo, here's just two versions so I can save everybody a headache in seeing all the other versions(unless they want to see them).

Also, I ended up updating my Sox Sells one after an anonymous person posted on my page about an anatomy correction, to which they were absolutely right. It's a shame they decided to keep in hiding, so I can give them a shout out(though, I think I already know who it was).

Finally finished coloring this bad boy-er, girl a few weeks ago. I also decided to add some clothes to her cause I said I was going to, and wanted to follow through. Also, cause it just seemed too plain without anything on.

Got to as close as to finished as I'll ever get. So, aside from the fairy one that I did(I'll still get back to that one) when I was breaking in my new tablet, I randomly started painting this one too. Took about a week total on and off.

I think seeing those trailers for that new Riding Hood movie got me inspired to paint a more child-like and fun version. Besides, that movie is being direct from the person responsible for Twilight, so I'm doing whatever I can to get that taste out my mouf! >:(

Read a post on CGHUB about an art challenge to do a pin up girl, well, pinup. Heh. So I thought I try a quick sketch of one, to get the creative juices flowing.

Took about 40+ mins to hammer it out, and went for a more cartoony type of style. This was a style I was playing with a few years ago, when I was just using the traditional tools: pencil, paper, pen, markers. It was fun revisiting this road again :)

Loved this show as a kid. It's most memorable to me because I used to watch it with my aunt and grandmother, who is no longer with us.

Did this concept for a proposed Sci Fi game, but the creator for the game didn't really like the look I gave her. He was looking for a more "revealing" type of character--more sexy and busty. Would have helped if he gave me a bit more of a description, but at the same time, I was trying not to design a character that was not the cliched "women in video game look". Guess we all have different takes on what a lead female character would look like. heh. More stuff for me to post up then :D

Finally got a chance to finish this at home. I wanted to give this design a wash-like color look to it ala' Alex Ross all the while trying to balance out the contrast, so it won't be unbalanced. Not sure if it looks decent with that attempt, so I dropped another one in, but this time with an added layer to give it some more color. I dunno...I'm just trying out different things.

I think not having a plan in the beginning can slow down your workflow cause you end up thinking what and where else you have to fill in to make it complete. Oh well, it's done and I'm moving on.

No thanks to my buddy Derek for pushing me to ink these, I finally did so.

Nothing special on the colors. Just used a custom shaped hard brush with multiply layers for each color.
The inks I used a black ink Japanese Pentel calligraphy brush and another Pentel ink brush. I love these pens and rarely use anything else when inking :)
Oh, and I used Canson tracing paper when I inked it, cause I know aside from being ink rusty, I tend to screw up the original from time to time. That, and I still can preserve the original.

Man, I got the best (early)birthday gift this year in the form of the ipad touch. And I knew that I had to buy sketchbook pro. So far I'm loving it, though the pogo stylus that I separately purchased is pretty poopy. You're better off with your finger until they make some better for artists.

Regardless, this sketch was done in sketchbook pro on the ipad and then taken into PS for some clean ups and corrections as you can see from the two images above. It's awesome that you can actually export your sketchbook files as a PSD. and email it to yourself. Very nice!

Finally done.

Well, as done as it's gonna get, BUT I do still see a few, tintsy, small things I know I'm gonna clean up or tweat, and that's it, I swear!

Well, one of the things that I had to correct was her X-men Beast-like feet. Those things were huge! That and I extended her calves a bit more, cause she looked a bit stumpy.

And in the end, I think by adding clothes and shoes, she ended up looking a whole lot better. Who would ever have thought a guy to say that women look better with clothes on? heh. just kidding.

I think this works much better--to much open space in the original one, and I wanted a way to put those classic zombies into it as well. As my friend called them "McDonald zombies"

It's time to move on. I still see alot of anatomy and perspective issues, but if I stay any longer on it, I'll never move on. I just know it. Played with alot of layers to help put some values on him, which I usually just use about 1-2 per painting. I feel that I cheat in doing so. I feel that if I can depend on skills rather than shortcuts and quick solutions, I'll never better myself.

So, the game that our company worked on was released this week on Xbox Live and PSN and the reviews on the game have been about average. Which is great for me cause at least it's not getting destroyed by the hard core SRPG fans. ALTHOUGH...heh, I can't say the same about the art. And as much as I thought that after reading all of the negativity about the art, I would have been taken it personally, but I didn't. Instead I laughed at some of the things reviewers had to say about it.I think things like this really make you stronger. I am in no way a great concept artist--I'm just like every other aspiring artists trying to do my best with what skills I have all the while doing my job for the company that I thoroughly enjoy working for. It's all baby steps.
It's getting late and I need to get some sleep, but I will be writing more with each new concept I put up on here, so you can see what I went through to get these done. And even perhaps get some insight on the process I went through.

I can't even concentrate at the moment cause I'm freakin' falling asleep here, but here's some stuff that should pass the time.

Who knows who will see this, but it's up and thank you for taking the time to visit.

Wow. I never thought that I would follow through with this painting, but I'm glad I did. I have to thank Jon McConnell for helping me out with this. His knowledge of colors is on an Einstein level! It really felt good to see this to the end, I almost gave up on it. But I can totally see the difference now with all the suggestion from my previous post. I'm in no way trying to toot my own horn, it's far from perfect, but I am content with the results.
I don't know why I decided to paint "the man of all action men" as a caricature(probably cause I've done many caricatures of him), but I know that another person at the weekly sketchgroup has done some pretty impressive caricature stuff and that more than likely has inspired me. This also coincides with me wanting to try PSCS2 on my new laptop. So far, so good. It has crashed a few times, but I'm reading on forums that it has something to do with Windows 7.

Man, I miss XP...

Finally got back to sketchgroup this week and met some new people and people that I haven't seen in a while. Heh, unfortunately, I did the majority of the work at home, but at least I started it over there. I also had to cover up some contact info that I got from the new peeps that I met there that was originally written down on this page. No biggie, my ego was not big enough to want to restart a complete new drawing, so I just edited out on PS. A quick color of it will be up soon.

Quick reason as to why I drew this was I some some very inspiring work on Deviantart of Red Sonja and thought this would be fun to do? I mean, who doesn't like to draw curvy Frazetta influenced dames with big, huge, hunken....

Man, I was surprised to see how fast I went and moved on to drawing him. I got to thank my buddy Derek for pushing me to draw more, and it's feeling pretty good. I hope to get to start inking this later tonight. I'm not feeling the bg(considering that I didn't even think it through), but it is what it is for now.
Perhaps next time, I'll thumbnail it with a decent background before moving on to the final pencils.

Took forever and a half to finally post it up. I finished this about a week back, BUT there were little things here and there that I needed to fill out(thanks for the suggestions Jon). Still needs work, but what's done is done. And with your own art, you're never really happy with the end results.
I think working on a Skeletor piece next sounds about right...
After that, I should get back to re-working on that Cap/Hulk one. heh.

So, I tried to finish this last night but wasn't sure what to put in the background. I'll be sure to figure it out tonight(any suggestions?).
You know, It's never as easy as you picture it in your head. For artisit, I like to think it takes a few redo's until you're happy with it, but with me, I rather use the word "content", since I'm never satisfied with the final product.
It'll also be inked after I'm done.
Man, I'm already brainstorming for something more epic in my head after this. His pose is not He-man-y enough!

Pencak Silat warrior

Been watching this documentary series about two guys learning different martial arts styles for 5 days and then having them fight a martial arts master of that particular style. It's cool. So one of the styles I really liked watching was the Pencak Silat style. It's an Indonesian style that incorporates knives and sticks with hand to hand combat. So, I tried to incorporate the garb as well as the knife they use, but I think I'm off on the weapon. Hopefully, I'll have this colored too soon.
I need to fix dem feet. He has no weight on him...but that's what happens when you draw too close to the bottom of the paper :/

Heh. This was my first test with that Pentel brush pen that I mentioned below. It's a quick doodle and I think it worked out pretty well. I originally had Lion-O jumping at him but I dind't have any reference at the moment, so i skipped on him. That, and seeing all the cool Mattel figures at the con got my engine going on drawing the most powerful man in the universe too. heh.

Hopefully, I'll be playing with inkworks more down the road :)

Sketch group sketch tag team!

So I went to the sketch group this week and met up with my buddies there. Me and Jon really didn't have any idea on what do sketch, so I started doing a caricature of our mutual buddy Jason. Jon ended up taking over the sketch and adding his own "spice" to it,(which made it look 100x's better than when I started it). I went back and finished inking this bad boy with my newly purchased Pentel brush pen that I was having a chubby for all night and telling everybody about how great it is if you use ink pens.

It really is a damn good pen. You really get some great brush linework out of it.

So, it seems that I'm on this zombie outbreak concept mood these past two weeks. And I think I have at least one more to design. It just seems that I've had these ideas lately with some background stories to help sell the designs about people from all walks of life, living their everyday lives, now faced with insurmountable odds of the most violent and unreasonable kind.

So, for this guy, his name is Santo Azul. This idea came from me growing up watching classic movies featureing real life luchadores fighting everyting from vampires to wolfmen to martians...man, I loved that stuff, and sure do miss it. Luchadore affecienados (or Mexican peeps)will know the names that I combined to create this characters. They both have quite the history indivudually, and I can go further into that, but I think I'm already writing fricken enough as it is.

Bio
A once great and famous luchadore and movie star throughout his early years, Santo Azul is now a living shadow of his former self. Personal demons and media rumors destoyed everything that he worked for--reducing him to small time, almost no paying wrestling gigs just to make ends meets. During one of his bouts the outbreak hits the audience and he is left fending for his life as they attempt to tear him apart as they already did to his opponent. As he searches for other survivors and his children he believes that this was his fate. His fate to redeem himself, the sport and his reputation.

As the #1carnal rule for wrestling goes...

The show must go on.

Okay, time to edit this post...

For some reason, THIS recently has been my "default" poses for drawing tough dames, I dunno why. BUT I also don't know why I have been drawing tough ladies.

Actually, I do.

Heh. Lately, I've been in the mood to shoot shit in the face and I went back and started playing left 4 dead. Man, that game is fun. And I guess me drawing these is the reason for it. My friend made a pretty good connection that I didn't see, which is that I guess my ladies(that I've posted so far) are survivors of the outbreak.
I think that sounds like a pretty good theme to me.
Maybe after I finish coloring the one below this, I'll start on a group of males(and I just thought of one!). So this should be fun.
So, with her(this is one the fly here) she's a former Colombian Rebel that left due to the unnecessary casualties and ideals long since forgotten, that were taken upon the very people she was trying to protect. She decided to move back to America to help her ill mother when the outbreak occurred. It's war all over again. Meh, that works for me.

And these past 2 weeks I have been going to this Wed. gathering called...*sigh*... The Epic Juice. It sounds like an energy drink to me, and I didn't come up with it, but it's not about the title anyhoo, it's about the people that you meet there. I have met a few new friends(if I can be so bold), and some of them have inspired me, while others seem to mearly go there to socialize and not draw as much(some egos are kept to a minimum, which is expected now with gatherings like this). And then there are old school mates that I have not seen in forever attending as well too. It is great to see them again and where they have gone since graduation. I do wish them all the best, as always.
So, yeah, it seems just like school all over again.

Do I really want to go through that all over again?

Oh, well...
So I haven't completely finished a painting in forever, and this one day sketch ended up being the result of one.
In the sketch, she originally did have a gun holstered on to her thigh but I never got back to painting it under her hand, so I said "screw it" and just moved on. Heck, I almost quit halfways cause the pencil work alone needed alot of PS correction, which I absolutely hate doing. I try not to use PS to "fix" my pencil problems--it feels so much like cheating on my part. But my thoughts on that can go on forever and I'll just leave it as that.
And the reason why she's topless is because drawing the chest from a 3/4 perspective can be quite challenging, especially the farthest viewed breast.

I love the movie, and the character, but dammit, I'm so pissed with myself.
In my everlasting search for improving myself as an artist, I have to at times, take a step back and take precaution when thinking that I can ink.

I've should have taken a step back with this one.

I was really content with this drawing and was hoping to put it up on deviant art inked and completed but that quickly became a cluster fuck when I thought tried my hand at inking it.
F***, I'm still upset, but luckily, I scanned it hi-rez and I can print it out so if I ever get the guts to try and ink it again I can.
*sigh* I knew I should have used tracing paper to ink it like I always do.

Since that craptacular Terminator: Salvation is coming out, I decided in protest to watch the original T1 movie, and man that still is a great flick!
It also got me thinking about those great Dark Horse licensed comics in the late 80's like Predator, Aliens, and Terminator. Man, they were great reads. I have to say though, reading the Terminator and Predator series was my fave cause of Chris Warner's art. His interpetations of those characters were always rough and gritty and that instantly hooked me in.

I finished up another sketch last night and was going to post it up after I scanned it, but it finally broke down. Just as well, I've had the thing for about 4+years now. Guess it's time for a new one.

Anyhoo, I also watched the Punisher War Zone a few days back and got inspired by it. Not that the movie was fantastic, but I've always been a Punisher fan ever since the 80's--from Mike Zeck, to Whilice Portacio, to War Journal's Jim Lee's stuff. Always inspirational, even to this day.

And who doesn't love bad guys getting the shit blown out of them :)

Clownface & a new sketchbook

It's been a while since I've done any art. I figured that the best motivation to start drawing again would be to buy a new sketchbook. Heh. It worked.
This is the first of the few sketches that will hopefully get my gears moving to do more.
I love Jason Pearson's Body Bags series, even though they come out once every blue moon, but here's my sketch of the main character Clownface. Total Latin badass. Wasn't sure where to put his weapons in the beginning, but only after I was done I thought laying it down on the floor would be the best place.
But, by then, I was too lazy to drawn them in. heh.
Oh well, maybe next time.

More Painter fun

Well, I didn't think I'd sit down for the entirety of this painting and finish it, but I did(3hrs).
Guess I was that bored or determined to finish it. Either way, I'm happy with the results for now.

As for the image, it's actually a paintover of a friends drawing that he did a few years back. I got an email today about another friend of mine who inked this yesterday I think, and wrote to us about how our mutal buddy Ken hasn't done any art in forever. So in hopes of getting him back to art, he inked it. Seeing it inked got me stoked to try out Painter some more.
I had alot of fun doing this--trial and error of course, but I think I'm heading in the right direction.

Watched the Outlaw of Josey Wales on the History Channel and what a great movie it is. Just like the old days of VHS with my dad.
I took a caricature class a few years back at school, and it was one of the best classes that I took. I learned a lot from Morpheus, and I tried to implement that into this sketch. I'm not sure if it really looks like him, but I'd like to keep working on some more in the future to get the hang of it again.

What a pretty cool program. I just wish I knew how to use it properly, cause it has so much potential.
Regardless, here's a sketch I did in it using the pastel brush, or whatever it's called. It felt pretty natural--kinda like the ol' college drawing days of using it on a "biggie" pad.

I think I'll work on a few more this weekend, and maybe be brave enough to experiment with the other mediums.

In your lifetime, you can probably count on your hand how many times you've seen one. What are the odds of me seeing this the day I hear news about my grandfather?

This took a little less than an hour to do. I'm not so great with background speed painting but, this was something that I tried to flesh out from my head, which isn't easy.
To me, there are some things in life that you just can't reach or attain, and at times this picture pretty much sums it up for me.

I loved when Simon Bisley worked on this guy during the late 80's-early 90's--his art brought so much to the character that I easily became a fan. This is pretty similar to my Cable pose--dead bodies and all, but I wanted to see if I can do a better one than my previous one, can't say I succeeded, but who am I to say? Wish I added a giant shiv to give it more of a homage to the x-mas special aside from Santa.

Ahh...the nineties. I really don't know what made me want to draw this guy, but it first started off as a random doodle sketch which became a weekend project. I mean, who doesn't like to draw big guns and guys that kick ass? I was going to go the route of Liefeld with more pouches, but I thought it might end up being too much on the sattirical side.
This was drawn on a manga page, which is smaller than the standard comic size page, and I really like the smoothness of the board on it. I also used a combination of pencil and mechanical and lead, from 2H to HB, with Cable being good ol' pencils and the bodies mechanical.

Maybe I'll ink, but I already have an idea of who I want to do next.
The main man sounds like fun, huh?

Having alot of fun playing Heavenly Sword for the PS3, and one of things that I always enjoy from these games are the unlockable contents particularly, the art galleries.
That Alessandro Taini (Talexi) cat sure can draw some great characters.

I think this was one of the first sketches that I did in my new sketchbook. Came out okay, I guess.
I was pretty amped after going to SDCC this year and seeing all that great art. I'm a huge fan of Bawidamann and good girl art, so this was the result of that. I know it doesn't really have that feel to(does it?) it but I love the spirit, personality and flirty-ness of those portraits.
